SpaceCity Nerd

Commander Jeebus here….I know what you’re thinking, “Who? What? Why do I care?”.  Well Oni-peeps, I’m the leader of the Space City Nerd crew; and if you don’t know who we are, well we’ll make sure to keep you well informed.

Space City Nerd started a year ago, and after figuring experiments out and test launches, we finally found a perfect formula to bring together Houston’s nerd community.   Whether you’re into comics, action figures, models, video games, anime, cosplay, DIY, and so on, there’s a place for you on our forums.  Aside from that, we also aim to inform you about events and even go so far as creating them ourselves.

Alright, shameless plug aside, we’re here to help Oni-Con keep everyone busy until the con arrives.  SCN will be guest blogging once in a while with awesome Houston happenings around town.

First up!

THE INTERGALACTIC NEMESIS!

Coming May 12 to the Wortham Center, is The Intergalactic Nemesis, a live action graphic novel.  Really interesting concept in where a graphic novel is brought to life on stage.  With images being projected on a 20 foot screen, live music, sound effects, and live voice acting, this is an awesome trip. For more info, visit www.Theintergalacticnemesis.com

And make sure to check out this awesome trailer:

Hours of Oni-Con

There have been a lot of questions regarding the hours of Oni-Con through the forums, emails, and Facebook.  To clarify, Oni-Con is a 24-hour con.  There is always something going on at all time between Opening Ceremonies and Closing Ceremonies.  Opening Ceremonies take place on Friday in the early afternoon while Closing Ceremony takes place in the late afternoon on Sunday.  In other words, Oni-Con never closes between Friday and Sunday.  However, after 11, underaged minors may not be permitted entrance to all of the events occurring.  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask through the forums, Facebook groups, and email.

catchans:

Progress for Oni-con.
Everyone say hello to Chuck. I’m pretty happy with how he turned out, the one thing that I’m not so happy about is that he physically can’t sit up on his own. I made him accurately proportionate, and that means OMG HUEG HEAD and tiny little body.

Countdown to Greatness

It’s the Monday before the convention and the staffers are working diligently to make sure everyone has an awesome time.

The crossing of the “t’s” and the dotting of the “i’s” are almost done. The stage will be set. In addition, I haven’t seen anyone pull out their hair.

So what’s in store, you ask? Stay tuned.

Hey everyone.  Many of you may have noticed the Oni-Con website is down and as many of you have pointed out via facebook, Pre-Reg closes today.

Please do not panic.  We are working on fixing the website.  Once it gets fixed, we will have Pre-Reg back up.  Depending on when the website is fixed, we will extend Pre-Reg accordingly, if it is necessary.

I will update the blog and the facebook groups when the site is back up.

Thank you for your patience with this.  We appreciate it.

Do You Want to Volunteer for Oni-Con 2010?

AA REG OPENS TODAY!

Artist Alley: Reg Begins 12:00 pm noon. (central) via the Contact form at the Oni Website -  $90 per table. limit 1 table.

Please visit  Convention Artists Community to discuss this topic with your peers.

A lot of you have questions about this years Artist Alley rules and regs. This blog is intended to be a guideline in your decision on whether to apply for the Oni-Con 2010 AA. The rules may change. These rules are not final and Oni-Con reserves the right to deny an AA applicant for any reason it decides without explanation to the applicant.

Tax I.D:

Unless you are giving away your works for free (not fan art) you must have a tax I.D. Tables used exclusively for promotions  with no sales do no require a tax I.D. (admittance must be approved by the AA director.)

It has been the decision of the Oni-Con Admin staff that any artists applying for booth space at Oni-Con must show a valid tax I.D regardless of net income. This item is a non-negotiable requirement.

Fan Art:

We have not made a full list of rules, but here is a basic idea:

Problem is that copyright law as it stands is very fuzzy. Info on fan art, fan labor, and fair use is very tough to comprehend.  Even the .GOV sites do not give enough info on the subject. So, since you have flooded us with emails asking us about certain loopholes we have decided to give you a stupid long list of what is acceptable.

Fan art includes what you think it does as well as sewing, sculptures, models, and the rest of it.

If you make a majority of your money from fan art you need not apply this year.

You may display fan art as your own expression and interpretation.

Displayed fan art can not make up more than 50% of your displayed works.

Single copies of that 50% may be sold. but not replaced with more fan art. (this may change)

Fan art items may not be displayed in portfolios of art work for sale.

Commissions are between you and the customer.

If any of the Oni Admin/safety staff can determine what character it is at a glance it will be deemed Fan Art.

More than one of the same original (fan art) work will be deemed a violation if it is too similar to another one of your own pieces and will be rejected if it is deemed (by Oni Admin/safety staff) too similar to any piece of licensed material.

If an artist has authorized the reproduction and profit of their art direct us to a document or official website and will review and decide.
